Calçada do Carmo

Service Description

The word Fado comes from the latin fatum, which means destiny and is the same word that gave rise to the words fadário and also the expression run the fado. Popularly speaking, fado in Lisbon refers to the songs of the moors, however they say that the existing records date back to the beginning of the 19th century, being best known in the Algarve area. Researcher Paulo Caldeira says that fado began to be sung between the walls of Alfama, Castelo, Mouraria, Madragoa and many other historic districts in Lisbon. Its bohemian origins come from taverns and brothels, from orgy and debauchery environments, making fado reprehensible at the eyes of high oscite and the church at that time. Today fado is known worldwide and is often accompanied by violin, cello, but it never dispenses with the sound of the Portuguese guitar. @Rossio Hostel takes place every Sunday between 8:00pm and 11:00pm
